Make it Memorable (2)

Giving students assignments can have all shapes and forms. Some can involve just a paper or line on the board, others can be a little more attractive.   What about this preparing one like this?  Glogster is a great tool for presentations, posters, assignments. It can have any shape, background, colour you can think of. It will give all the space your imagination needs. Give it a try!  This is a presentation I prepared for a group of teachers starting to use Edmodo

Make it more memorable (1)

I'm sure many teachers have been using PowerPoint for quite some time and are ready for a change. I am sharing a Prezi presentation I prepared some time ago before our students started reading "The Catcher in the Rye", an excellent book I recommend if you are planning to use real material with adolescents.  I find Prezi a lot more attractive than PPP, it allows us to include videos, images and a lot of movement.  BTW it also allows us to upload slides from any PPP we might have in our computers.  Hope you find it useful.

Lois Lowry - The Giver

Great book for adolescents and a lovely movie too. I tell my students to watch after reading the book. In this way, they can enjoy both formats ;-) In this Prezi  you will find information on the author, plus a short video of the author talking about her book. There are also notes on the book's topics. Students can go through the presentation while they listen to the movie's music in the background. Hope you find it useful!

Somerset Maugham - Mr Know-all

If you are looking for a great short story, then Mr Know-all by Somertet Maugham is the perfect choice!  A lovely short story to read with an incredible twist at the end! I prepared this Prezi  for my Advanced students, in this way they could work at their own pace going through the different activities y proposed.  Do take a look, hope you find it useful.

"If you don't know where you're going, then sure as anything you won't get there." by  Vadim Kotelnikov , Founder, 1000ventures.com Setting Goals The major outcome of  strategic road-mapping  and  strategic planning , after gathering all necessary information, is the setting of goals for the organization based on its vision and mission statement. A goal is a long-range aim for a specific period. It must be specific and realistic. Long-range goals set through strategic planning are translated into activities that will ensure reaching the goal through operational  planning . Setting Objectives  Setting objectives involves a continuous process of research and decision-making. Knowledge of yourself and your unit is a vital starting point in setting objectives. Strategic planning  takes place at the highest levels. The first step in operational planning is defining objectives - the result expected by the end of the cycle. The obj...

Communicating: Non verbal language

Image
Body  language is a part of  nonverbal language . It includes things like stance, gestures, facial expressions, and even small things that are barely perceptible like a brief shrug of the shoulder or nod of the head. We frequently communicate both bodily and verbally and an estimated 70% of what we communicate may be nonverbal. Nonverbal language is an even bigger category, which includes things like tone of voice. There are many ways to learn to interpret  body  language but it must be understood that these are frequently specific to a culture. For instance in the US people wave good bye with the palm facing the person they’re waving to, and the fingers may open and close. In other cultures, waving goodbye may occur with the hand palm up to the sky, and the fingers opening and closing. To people in the US, this might look like a gesture asking someone to approach rather than a wave goodbye. Still, since most of us live in one area where...

Positive Psychology.

Image
What is Positive Psychology? Positive Psychology is one of the newest  branches of psychology  to emerge. This particular area of psychology focuses on how to help human beings prosper and lead healthy, happy lives. While many other branches of psychology tend to focus on dysfunction and abnormal behavior, positive psychology is centered on helping people become happier. Martin Seligman  and  Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi  describe positive psychology in the following way: "We believe that a psychology of positive human functioning will arise that achieves a scientific understanding and effective interventions to build thriving in individuals, families, and communities."
